Young & Sick - ‘House of Spirits’
Young & Sick are a music / fashion / art project based in Los Angeles with roots in London. Over the past couple of weeks I received some emails asking for more information on the outfit, one pointed out that “they/he/she does art for Foster the People and Maroon 5.” I was completely unaware of that fact. Actually I have no reason to know such things. I do know that I was won over by ’Room 48’, an r&b track with D’Angelo influenced vocals and “bass inspired by dirt, sex, and sweat.” Follow up ‘Counting Raindrops’ was equally compelling but more laid back in mood and aural presentation.
The reason for the mail-enquiries is that Young & Sick have dropped a new tune, one that’s garnering interest it seems. ‘House of Spirits’ is Sade-esque (translation: very sexy.) Its backbone is clever artstep drum beats, minimal and considered, with girl-sung vocals, loving and delicate. Some gentle strings, subtle synth harmonics and line such as “My saviour I kneel before thee / perfect legs that conclude in glory”, well, *mouth goes dry*, this is one suggestive little number - more over on Voiceless Artists.
